LANGUAGE ARTS:

*Identifying, writing, and doing activities with the letters  Nn.

*We will be reviewing the letters and sound Bb, Ff, Tt.  Your child should be able to identify each of these letters, the sound they make, and their sounds at the beginning of words. Please practice nightly with your child!!!

*Learning to read the following Trick words:  like,come, look, at, me, see, I, the.

*Writing as “authors” in our Writing “Community”.

*SHOW AND TELL IS GOING GREAT!  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

MATH:

*Working on the concept of one-to-one correspondence.

*Recognizing, creating, and extending ABC and ABB patterns

*GRAPHING APPLES

*Looking at the different sizes of apples.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

*Continuing our unit of study on Fall Celebrations.

SCIENCE:

*Starting our unit of study on our 5 SENSES.

*Doing activities in our unit on Fall.  We will continue our focus this week  on APPLES!

*Friday, October 9th Roadrunners on the run.  Kindergarten (and 1st grade) will warm up at 2:15-2:25 (with Ms. Hanna) and will start their run at 2:25-3:00.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

*Identifying, writing, and doing activities with the letter Ff.

*Reviewing letters Bb, and Tt.

*Learning to read the following Trick Words: Come, look, at, me, see, I, the.

Please review these words nightly.

*Having “Show and Tell” on Wednesday (Girls) and Friday (Boys if we get back

in time) on the letter Ff.

*Doing activities in our NURSERY RHYME UNIT.

*Lots of LITERATURE: identifying the parts of a book, author, and illustrator.

*We will be working on Literacy activities each week with our Book Buddies, Mrs.

Wilson’s 2nd grade class, on Friday afternoons.

MATH:

*Learning to CLASSIFY and SORT according to color, shape, and size.

*Counting orally from 0-10.

*Doing activities with POSITIONAL WORDS.

*Patterns- 2 colors=ABAB or AABB and 3 colors=ABCABC

*Identifying objects with 2 attributes (color/shapes)

SOCIAL STUDIES

*Learning about the American “FLAG” and the Pledge of Allegiance.

*Working on listening skills, following directions, class rules, and getting along

with each other.

SCIENCE:

*Starting our unit of study on our 5 SENSES.

*Doing activities in our unit on Fall. Our emphasis this week is on APPLES! I am

asking that each student bring in 1 red apple, 1 green apple, and 1 yellow

apple by Monday.  We will be doing many fun activities with these apples.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

**September 25th, Carter’s Mountain Field Trip.  Chaperones we will depart

from RES at 8:40 and return by 2:30. Please send in your money and form

by September 22nd.

*Monday, September 21ST, Interims go home.

*Monday, September 28th, NO SCHOOL for students

*Friday, October 9th Roadrunners on the Run. Try your best to send out 10

letters. The class who has the most with 10 signatures gets to dunk Mr. Gardner

in the dunk tank!!

*Learning to read the following TRICK WORDS:  “look” “at” “my”.

*Having “Show and Tell” on Wednesday (girls), and Friday (boys) on the letter Tt!

*Doing activities in our unit on NURSERY RHYMES.

*Practicing cutting, tracing, coloring, and writing our names.  Continue helping your child write their name “Kindergarten Style.”  I am already seeing big improvements!

 

MATH:

*Learning to CLASSIFY and SORT according to color, shape, and size.

*Counting orally from 0-10.

*Doing activities with POSITIONAL WORDS.

*Doing graphing activities

*Finishing our unit on SHAPES.  Your child should be able to easily identify these shapes: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, and oval.

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

*Learning The Pledge of Allegiance and recognizing the American Flag.

*Working on listening skills, following directions, class rules, and getting along with each other.

*All About Me Unit Begins.  All About Me boxes are due Friday, September 11th.

 

SCIENCE:

*Thank you for your help with this color unit.  You did a great job!

*Instructional Fee due   ($10.00).  Please turn this in if you have not already.

*Monday, September 7th, School’s closed.  Have a great holiday weekend.

*Thursday, September 10th at 6:30 is PTA night.  After the meeting we will have classroom visitation.  

*Friday, September 11th All About Me boxes are due.

Friday, September 11th, Blue Ribbon Reader forms due.

*September 25th we will be going on a field trip to Carters Mountain.  More information to come.  We will have 5 chaperones per class, in order to be considered you have to receive a background check.

*Please join the PTA.  The class with 100% participation wins a prize.  If the school has 100% participation we can win grants for our school.  Join the PTA for $6.00.  Make checks out to RES PTA
