*What you and your child can do:

*make flash cards, read aloud, write words in ABC order, create pyramids, rainbow write, create sentences/stories

Sorts:

The sorts are more challenging now. Please practice a little bit each night.

*Create word families (rhyming words) using old sorts or any words you can think of.

*Write words that begin with blends.  (gr, br, pr, etc./bl, cl, gl, etc.)

*Write sentences using these words.

Reading:

*Read aloud to your child.

*Have your child read a story.

*Identify the characters and the setting. Is there a problem? If so, what is the solution?

*Illustrate your favorite part.

Math:

*Write the numbers 1-100.

*Write the numbers by skip counting:

twos (2-20)

fives (5-100)

tens (10-100)

Social Studies:

*Identify/Recognize  U.S. symbols:

American flag-bald eagle-Washington Monument-Statue of Liberty

*People to know about:

G. Washington- 1st president, “Father of Our Country”, lived at Mt. Vernon in VA

A. Lincoln- 16th president, “honest Abe”, born in a log cabin

Writing:

*Sequencing:  “How To Build A Snowman”

*Create your class valentines for our treat day on Friday, February 12th.

Snow Days!

I hope my students are enjoying the snow days.

  • writing- schools long ago
  • applying sight words more to our writing/editing for correct spelling

MATH:

  • patterns on the hundred chart- counting to 100 by ones, fives, tens/counting to 20 by twos

SOCIAL STUDIES:

  • sequence of events on picture timelines/distinguishing between past and present

SCIENCE:

  • moving objects exhibit different kinds of motion

The 100th Day of School!!  This will be held on our first day back from the snow.

3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th- After School Classes- 3:15-4:15

4- Parent/Teacher Conferences  (1:00 dismissal for students)

(2-7 p.m.- conferences)

12- Valentine Treats @ 2:45

We will exchange valentines and read these during our treat time. I will send home a class list soon.

19- celebrating “Heroes of History” day

Homework 1/25

Reading-

  • Read your weekly story aloud to someone. Practice the vocabulary words at the beginning of each story. These need to be recognized when reading, not spelled.
  • Please read aloud the “Think and Respond” questions with your child. These can be found at the end of each story. Practice writing the answers in complete sentences.

(Sprees- Create your own comprehension questions. Who are the characters? What is the problem? etc.)
