Streagle's Eagles
Laughing and learning at Byrd Elementary School in Goochland, Virginia-
November 30th, 2011LessonsWe are learning about models and maps in social studies these few weeks before the Christmas holiday. Yesterday we made a model of our school using milk cartons, cardboard boxes, and tissue paper. We are adding the playground today. Once we are finished, we’ll post a picture of it. We enjoyed walking around the school comparing the location of classrooms and other points of interest with our model. Our school friends were all impressed with our work.

October 18th, 2011Weekly NewsNow that autumn is here, it’s time to learn more about it. We will be reading books, looking at pictures, and watching videos about autumn. We plan to take a nature walk around the school to look for signs of autumn. We will also be doing a scavenger hunt to find things we see in autumn. Keep posted for pictures of what we find.

October 18th, 2011Weekly NewsWe just finished our unit on our national symbols. We learned about the bald eagle, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty, and the American flag. We also know that saying the Pledge of Allegiance is one way to show respect for the American flag. You can see our art work of our national symbols in the hall outside our classroom. However, if you can’t stop by our room, check out the picture below.

This is our art work of our national symbols. Do you recognize the American flag, the bald eagle, the Washington Monument, and the Statue of Liberty?

September 15th, 2011Lessons, Outdoor Learning LabYou may know that Byrd Elementary School has an outdoor learning lab in our courtyard. The learning lab is filled with lots of beautiful flower boxes and young trees. We started our job of watering the flowers and trees each week. See us in action!

We fill the watering can from the rain barrel.

The water from the rain barrel is cold!

Then, we carry the watering can to the plants and trees to give them a drink.
