Tonight I am presenting about the Civil Rights Data Collection to our school board and community. This is a mandatory report through the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights.
CRDC report Presentation to the School Board
February 14th, 2012Assignment Dates for December
December 13th, 2011Elementary -
Your M2 Date Range is from 10/22/11 until 12/26/11. Please make sure all assignments are entered with a date before 12/26. YES, you may still enter some grades on January 2nd, but do not date an assignment for Jan 2nd.
Your T2 (Marking Period Test) must have a date between 12/12 and 12/26. T2 test assignments may still be entered on Jan 2nd, but will NOT be stored and on the report card if it is not dated within the range.
Secondary -
Your M2 Term assignments MUST have a date between 10/22/11 and 12/11/11. You may add additional assignments after that date, but the actual date entered for the assignment must be in that range for it to be calculated in the M2 term.
Your E1 exam assignments must be between 12/12/11 and 12/26/11. IF you do NOT give an exam, all of your assignments must fall on 12/11/11 or earlier.
Don’t worry – as long as you follow the date range, you will be fine and all of your grades should be calculated correctly.
If you are uncomfortable with entering the incorrect date, then please make a note on the assignment so that the students and parent can look at it and know when it actually took place.
This is nothing new to our school system. We’ve been working around the date ranges since we moved to electronic gradebooks. If you need assistance, please see your teacher experts. You may also email me if no one knows the answer. I might be able to help. ☺
Happy Grading!

New way of entering K and 1 standard grades
November 30th, 2011PowerSchool is moving away from entering standards grades and comment from PowerTeacher and toward entering these grades and comment in the PowerTeacher Gradebook.
Don’t worry K and 1 teachers, it’s not so bad. We will be meeting this week and next to go over it, but I wanted to post the info just in case you forget something.
Here are several documents to help you through the process.

Reading and Math Levels
October 18th, 2011So there is a change for grades 2-5 when entering your A, B, or O for student Math and Reading levels.
You can only enter levels if you are teaching Reading or Math. No other subjects will show this information. From the Scoresheet in PowerTeacher Gradebook, click on the Final Grades button. You will see the Reading or Math Level. Enter A(above), B(below) or O(on) for each student like you were giving a grade. Save the change.

To publish or not to publish
September 6th, 2011Publishing an assignment makes it possible for parents and students to see it in the PowerSchool Student and Parent Portals. Publish an assignment at the same time you create it or at any point afterward. The gradebook defaults to publishing assignments to the PowerSchool Student and Parent Portals as soon as you create them. The Publish tab is located in the assignment pane.

If an assignment is part of students’ final grades, you must publish it at some point to the Student and Parent Portals. You will receive an error message if you choose the Never publish option for an assignment that counts towards the final grade.
**Non-published assignments do calculate into the final grade. There is a separate setting in the assignment setup to establish whether that assignment will count toward the final grade.

Revision to Seating Chart
September 1st, 2011We are back to our “old” seating chart. I’m sorry for this inconvenience. I know you just learned a new “snazzy” one. BUT, the old one works with all of my other customization. I’m sorry for this change.

Seating Chart is back
August 23rd, 2011Here are the only directions I have for the new seating chart:
Most actions will be intuitive, and the tabs clearly define the purpose of each “mode”. Right clicking on a seat will remove the seat and the student if occupied in Layout mode. Right clicking on it in Seat Assignment mode will only remove the student. And right clicking in Classroom Tools will do nothing.
The Add Block feature was added so that teachers could make their own shapes for desks, bookcases, and other furniture items. They help give a little definition to the room.
If you have additional directions for anyone, please submit a comment. I’ll accept your comment and it will post for others.
