Art 2 – Block 1 – Va SOL – AII.1; AII.3

Mehandi Indian Designs.  sw view examples of these designs; learn art history related to the project and create an original design by tracing around their drawn hand on paper for transfer with w/s markers to their hand by a buddy.  due 8/28-8/31

Art I – Block 2 – Va. SOL – AI.1; AI.3

Sketchbook Assignment – due Friday 8/28 for interim grade.

Kitchen utensil Unit – Intro to elements of art and design principles.  Sw view video of same;  bring in utensil for tracing on Wednesday; complete worksheet on henri matisse;  use fadeless art paper to create small cutout to demonstrate understanding of design principles space and balance through the art elements of line, shape, color.  sw use fine line markers to create pattern in copies of two of matisse’s work to show design principles of repetition, rhythm, movement and pattern through line, texture, color.  Due end of class on Friday.  Tuesday we start kitchen utensil portion which will be due on Thursday at the end of class.

D1B3 – Art 3/4 VA SOL:  AIII.1; AIII.6; AIV.1; AIV.5 – Self Portraiture – Getting a likeness.

Sketchbook Assignment due 8/28 for interim grade.

sw view short video on creating self portrait.  Use pencil, mirror and follow along with instructor to get their likeness through the use of various overhead visuals.  Project due end of class on 9.3.09

D2B1 & 2 – Ceramics

Introduction to studio maintenance, housekeeping rules, etc.  There are no separate VA SOL for ceramics.  AI.1; AI.3  Overview of first project:  Multicultural masks – sw view short video on same; choose one particular culture they want to use to create a clay mask.  Sketch out their mask idea on paper.  Observe instructor in use of clay and project requirements.  proper storage of projects.
