I had the opportunity to join Mrs. Holloway-Costa, GHS English teacher, and eight members of her Poetry Club on Thursday evening as they discussed literature, enjoyed some chocolate-covered gummy worms, and laughed … a lot.
We know that students who are genuinely connected to their school experience realize much greater success than those who aren’t. For some students it’s a science class that connects them. For others – it’s band, drama, art, or athletics. And for others – it’s one of our professionals who establishes the connection – a teacher, a coach, a counselor.
Clubs and other co-curricular often provide the broad platform from which to develop other creative opportunities to engage students. Alongside the leadership of Mr. Michael Newman, GHS principal, Mrs. Holloway-Costa and dozens of other dedicated faculty sponsors have developed a vibrant collection of club offerings for students this year.
