Principals and directors have helped identify our GCPS Committee on Growth Measures who will be responsible for bringing forward feedback from the GCPS team as we review what exists and make decisions about what’s best for our students. The Virginia Department of Education has recently recognized the importance of measuring student growth (or progress) in striking a more appropriate balance in pursuit of highly capable, highly educated, and high performing students. The trouble, though, is that they’re initial steps are on the backs of a fleet of state assessments that are aimed at measuring students’ achievement — not growth.
