GCPS Instructional Council

Dear GCPS Community,

Goochland County Public Schools gathered tremendous momentum heading into the 2012-13 school year.  The past ten months have given way to a longview of stability, sustained positive energy, and an invigorated focus on meaningful achievement, engaged learning, and the importance of relationships.  It’s time to clearly define (and refine) our PK-12 instructional program, present and future.

During the next two weeks we will identify a relatively small, though comprehensive, team of stakeholders who represent varied backgrounds, areas of expertise, and experiences.  These individuals will make up our 2012-13 GCPS Instructional Council and will be charged with uncovering the key principles and objectives that will serve to guide our PK-12 instructional program over the next 5 years.  We will be clear about what we have today.  And we will be thoughtful and deliberate about what is best moving forward.

The Council will commit to a series of evening meetings this fall that will be open to the public.  The team will spend time with the following “big picture” questions:

      1. How can we maximize every student’s potential?
      2. What’s the difference between student achievement and student growth?  Which is most important?
      3. How do we measure learning engagement?
      4. What characteristics make up a successful GHS graduate?  What does a PK-12 instructional program that produces this success “look like”?

If you would like to be considered for membership to the Instructional Council for the 2012-13 school year, please let us know through this form or here for traditional submission by October 15, 2012.
