Goochland Schools Host University Discussion about Minority Achievement Gap

The Goochland County Public School division, in cooperation with the GCPS Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee, is delighted to announce an event on October 21 in the JSRCC Goochland Campus Community room at 7pm.  Faculty and staff members from the school division will be invited to hear Dr. Tonya Moon from the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education, who will be presenting a detailed report on the research regarding how schools can improve academic achievement for African-American students.

“This is an important manifestation of our mission, which is to maximize the potential of all learners,” explained superintendent James Lane. “Divisions across the Commonwealth have long searched for ways to close the achievement gaps that exist within our student populations. We are committed to widening our conversation and deepening the partnerships that can provide so many valuable resources to us in this endeavor.”
