On Monday, December 3, 2012, John Hendron was presented with the Making IT Happen award at the 27th annual Virginia Society for Technology in Education conference held in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
This award both identifies and rewards leaders in the field of educational technology for their commitment and innovation. John joins the ranks of distinguished education leaders, from across the globe. In the past decade, VSTE has only recognized two other members for this distinction.
This award is sponsored by the International Society for Technology in Education, the Pearson Foundation, and Cable in the Classroom. Hendron was nominated for this award by both members of the VSTE Board of Directors and VSTE members. The award was presented by Daniel Arkin, PhD, and Janene Gorham, both former recipients of the award. Dr. Arkin was formally the executive director of the Virginia Society for Technology in Education and was one of its founding members. VSTE is a 5,000+ member professional development organization committed to serving educators in Virginia and beyond with the use and deployment of technology in public and private preK-12 schools and in higher education. ISTE represents more than 100,000 education leaders throughout the world is responsible for the creation of the National Technology Education Standards for students, school administrators, and technology coaches.
Arkin and Gorham made mention of John’s commitment to the field of educational technology, his influence on affecting change within the Commonwealth, in his service to the society. Recipients of the Making IT Happen Award teach through relationships, inspiration, and encouragement; they expect success, and they motivate through awareness and access to information.

Hendron has worked for Goochland County Public Schools since 1999 and has served on the VSTE Board of Directors since 2008. He has presented at every one of the VSTE Annual Conferences since 2000.
