Howard Gardner: August 15, 2011

The next event in the Region One Superintendents’ Learning Series will be Monday, August 15. Howard Gardner will explore ideas in his new book, Truth, Beauty & Goodness Reframed: Educating for the Virtues of the 21st Century. Fifteen participants selected by their principals from GCPS will attend (the event this year is scheduled on the day of our opening convocation – problematic for many of us).Howard Gardner Compressed

Gardner is best known for his theory of multiple intelligences – aspects of that theory find their way into much of the professional development on instruction and learning that we experience today. While his intelligences theory has gotten the most headlines, he’s certainly contributed much, much more.

I encourage you to get familiar with him, if for no other reason simply to be aware of a guy who’s a major player in the literature that drives many ideas that influence our profession. If you’re attending the event and are looking for recertification points – here’s the program:

Points are earned in the Professional Development Activities (Option Eight) category of the License Renewal Form

  1. Attend the event: earn 4 points

  2. Write a blog post about the event & link to this post somewhere in yours: get another 1 point

  3. Read one of these papers & incorporate the thoughts it generates into the above blog post: get another 1 point

  4. Provide staff development to your colleagues based on something learned at the event: earn 2 or more points (email me to get the details before you do this )

ALSO! Keep your eyes & ears open during the event for ideas that could fuel a G21 project. He’s going to be talking about teaching in the context of 21st century learning
