3rd Grade Class News

Week of January 26th

The PTA is asking for donations for the Annual Silent Auction.  Each grade level is filling a basket for the auction.  More details concerning our basket and the theme are attached to your child’s agenda.

This week:

  • We will continue to focus on Word Study.
  • Review Multiplication Facts.
  • Be sure to write your paragraph about a book you read on the back of your Reading Log!
  • We will learn about nouns – common, proper and plurals.
  • We will focus on comprehension strategies while reading.
  • We will learn to write a good opening Topic Sentence, supporting sentences and a good strong closing sentence.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • We will test on Explorers this week!
  • Write a paragraph using a clear main idea and supporting details, proper indentation, capitalization of first word in each sentence, and making sure to stay on topic.
  • We will begin to learn about energy
  • We will continue to work on fractions.  We will add and subtract fractions.  We will begin to learn about mixed number fractions.
  • We will test on Fractions.

 

Multiplication Facts Ice cream party

We are earning our way towards an Ice cream Party!  We will begin with a test on multiplication facts for the 0’s.  Each level earns a piece that will be used in the ice cream party.  For Example:  A 100% on the 0’s earns a spoon, a 100% on the 1’s earns a bowl, a 100%  on the 2’s earns a napkin, and so on, until we reach the 12’s.  I will be keeping track of where everyone is on the chart in the classroom.

 

Weekly Reading Logs:  This week, we will have a new selection to read and fill out each day.  Please return the Reading Folder Daily.

Week of January 20th

 

It’s time to buckle down and really get to work!  We have a lot of work to cover before SOL testing begins.  The SOL tests are coming very soon, so we will have to work hard for us to all be prepared.

This week:

  • We will continue to focus on Word Study.
  • Review Multiplication Facts for the 0’s, 1’s and 2’s.
  • Be sure to write your paragraph about a book you read on the back of your Reading Log!
  • We will finish and test on root words, prefixes and suffixes.
  • We will continue making predictions, sequencing events, nouns, compound words, variations of irregular vowel sounds while reading.
  • We will continue to work on grammar skills such as using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, capitalizing proper nouns, using punctuation at the end of each sentence, etc.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • We will review all multiplication facts.
  • Write a paragraph using a clear main idea and supporting details, proper indentation, capitalization of first word in each sentence, and making sure to stay on topic.
  • We will continue to learn about the early explorers who explored the Americas.
  • We will continue to work on fractions.  We will compare fractions with unlike denominators and will begin adding and subtracting fractions.

Happy New Year!  We are now half way through our school year.  We have a lot to accomplish before the end of the year, but I know we can do it!

This week:
