3rd Grade Class News

December 15th

It’s almost time for Christmas Break!  On Friday, we are going Christmas Caroling at the Nursing Home.  If you have not turned in your permission form to go caroling, please do so as soon as possible.

This week:

  • We will not have new Spelling or Vocabulary Words this week.  We will use the same words we used last week.
  • Heritage Doll Project:  Please complete this project with your child.  You may do this project as a family.  I have extended the date.  Please return your Heritage doll by Thursday, December 18th.  We will display our dolls in the classroom.
  • We will focus on Word Study.
  • Making predictions, sequencing events, nouns, compound words, variations of irregular vowel sounds while reading.
  • We will continue to work on grammar skills such as using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, capitalizing proper nouns, using punctuation at the end of each sentence, etc.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • We will begin 8’s and 9’s in multiplication.
  • Write a paragraph using a clear main idea and supporting details, proper indentation, capitalization of first word in each sentence, and making sure to stay on topic.
  • We will continue to learn about Simple Machines.
  • We will continue to learn about Fractions.

Holiday Reading Logs:  This week, we will have a Holiday Reading Sheet.  Please answer ONE question per day and return on Friday as usual.

Book Orders:  The books we ordered should be here any day.

*Writing a paragraph with appropriate capital letters and punctuation.  We will include writing skills such as indenting the beginning of each paragraph, including a clear topic sentence, and elaborating details.  We will edit and publish our work.

Our Winter Program will be held Monday night at Goochland High School.  Please arrive early.  Seats fill up VERY quickly!

Two more weeks until Christmas Break starts!  Don’t forget the Winter Program at the High School on Monday night.

This week:

  • We will focus on Word Study.
  • Making predictions, sequencing events, nouns, compound words, variations of irregular vowel sounds while reading.
  • We will finis learning about and test on Mali.
  • We will continue to work on grammar skills such as using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, capitalizing proper nouns, using punctuation at the end of each sentence, etc.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • We will begin 7’s and 8’s in multiplication.
  • Write a paragraph using a clear main idea and supporting details, proper indentation, capitalization of first word in each sentence, and making sure to stay on topic.
  • We will begin Simple Machines.
  • We will finish and test on Time.
  • We will begin to learn about Fractions.
  • We will use a calendar to determine a future date.
