November 4th is a Student Holiday.  Parent Teacher Conferences will be held from 11am – 7pm.

Week of October 27th

On Friday, October 31st, we will have our Fall Party.  It is only two weeks away.  I will be sending home a reminder to send in what you signed up for.  We are looking forward to yummy treats.

This week, we are working on:

  • We will continue sequencing events/main idea, Author’s Purpose – persuade, inform, entertain
  • We will begin to learn about Greece, Rome and Mali.
  • Reading comprehension skills – Author’s purpose, narrative elements, finding details, main idea, etc.
  • We will continue to work on grammar skills such as using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, capitalizing proper nouns, using punctuation at the end of each sentence, etc.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • We will continue to work on multiplication
  • Writing a paragraph using the appropriate uppercase letters and punctuation marks.  We will edit our writing to make sure we include proper indentation of paragraphs and use of a clear topic sentence.  We will publish our work using keynote.

 

Homework/Reading Logs:  There are many children who are not completing their homework.  Please make sure your child does his/her homework each night.  Homework is designed to help your child reinforce the skills that we are working on in class.

Scholastic Book Order:  We received our book order on Friday.  There were a couple of books that were on back order.  When these books arrive, I will send them home right away.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Columbus Day Holiday.  Before you know it, it will be time for Halloween and Thanksgiving festivities.  We will complete Day 1 of our Reading Homework in class Tuesday morning.

This week, we are working on:

  • We will begin sequencing events
  • We will finish natural cycles such as moon phases, tides, seasons.
  • We will begin learning about the water cycle, including terms such as condensation, evaporation, precipitation.
  • Reading comprehension skills – Author’s purpose, narrative elements, finding details.
  • We will continue to work on grammar skills such as using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, capitalizing proper nouns, using punctuation at the end of each sentence, etc.

Homework/Reading Logs:  Please complete all homework assigned each night.  The Reading Log needs to be completed each night and your child will also need to write a paragraph on the back of the Reading Log by Thursday night.

Scholastic Book Order:  Our latest book order was sent in last week.  Our books should arrive in about a week and a half.
