3rd Grade News

You Can Use

  We will have a Fall Party in our classroom on October 3st.  I am sending home a sign up sheet today.  Please check off what you would like to contribute.

This week, we are working on:

  • Reading skills, finding details, reference materials, table of contents.
  • Reading comprehension skills – Author’s purpose, narrative elements.
  • We will continue to work on grammar skills such as using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, capitalizing proper nouns, using punctuation at the end of each sentence, etc.
  • We will continue to review rounding to the 100,00’s place.
  • We will continue to work on addition and subtraction with regrouping.
  • We will finish and test on Metric measurement and standard English measurement units.
  • We will learn about Natural cycles.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • Writing a paragraph using the appropriate uppercase letters and punctuation marks.  We will edit our writing to make sure we include proper indentation of paragraphs and use of a clear topic sentence.  We will publish our work using keynote.

 

Homework/Reading Logs:  Please complete all homework assigned each night.  The Reading Log needs to be completed each night and your child will also need to write a paragraph on the back of the Reading Log by Thursday night.

Scholastic Book Order:  October book orders will be sent home on Wednesday.  If you would like to order, please return the order form, or order online, by Wednesday, October 8th.

Week of September 22nd

3rd Grade News

You Can Use

  So far, no one has volunteered to be our Room Mother/Room Parent.  We can break this down by having a different Room Parent for each holiday.  I am sending home a sign up sheet on Monday.  Please sign up if you would like to help out with any of our holiday parties.

This week, we are working on:

I am looking for a Room Mother for our classroom.  I need someone who can help plan treats for upcoming Holidays.  If you would like to help out, or if you would like to volunteer to be our Room Mother, please contact me.

  • We will continue to review comparing and ordering numbers
  • We will finish rounding to the 100,00’s place.
  • We will begin working on money.
  • Scientific investigation and observation., how observations are made, predicting, metric measurement and standard English measurement units.
  • Writing in cursive.
  • Writing a paragraph using the appropriate uppercase letters and punctuation marks.  We will edit our writing to make sure we include proper indentation of paragraphs and use of a clear topic sentence.  We will publish our work using keynote.
  • We will wrap up PALS testing this week.

 

We have homework every day.  Please be sure to sign your child’s agenda and return it to school daily.

 

Scholastic Book Order:  Our book orders have not arrived yet.  I will distribute them as soon they come in.

  • Comparing and ordering numbers, rounding numbers.

We have homework every day.  Please be sure to sign your child’s agenda and return it to school daily.

 

Scholastic Book Order:  Scholastic Book orders were called in on Friday, September 5th.  They should take approximately a week and a half to arrive.

3rd Grade News

You Can Use

  What a lovely and relaxing Labor Day Weekend we had.  I hope everyone had a chance to have fun and to relax.

 

Our encore schedule for the week is:

Monday – Music

Tuesday – Art

Wednesday – P.E.

Thursday – Media or Guidance – This week we have Guidance.

Friday – P.E.

 

This week, we are working on:

  • Reading comprehension skills.
  • The four types of sentences and basic grammar skills such as when to use a capital letter and appropriate punctuation.
  • We will finish Place Value.  Specific skills include:  Writing numbers in standard form, expanded form and written form, determining value of a specific number according to its place within the number.
  • We will finish map skills:  Map legend, compass rose, title of map.
  • We will review:  Equator, Prime Meridian, 7 continents, oceans, hemispheres.
  • Ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least.

 

We have homework every day.  Please be sure to sign your child’s agenda and return it to school daily.

 

Scholastic Book Order:  Scholastic Book Orders are due by Friday, September 5th.  You may enter your order online or return the form to me.  If you would like a copy of the Scholastic Book Order form, please let me know and I will send one home with your child.
