We Are All Abuzz About (Mar 31 – Apr 4)

 

Dear Parents,

Spring Break is coming upon us very soon:  April 14 – 18.  I hope everyone is looking forward to a little time off.  The Easter Egg Hunt and Party will both be Friday, April 11th.  Please sign up to send in something yummy for the breakfast. 

We Are All Abuzz About:

·       Counting to 100

·       Counting by 5’s

·       Recognizing and writing numbers 0 – 50

·       Reciting and recognizing the months of the year

·       Writing skills – We will write short sentences, sentences begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark

·       Animal Life Cycles:  Baby animals look like their mothers

·       Addition:  We will begin to learn the basics of addition

·       Sounding out words to read short sentences

·       Sight words:  out, our

·       Short u sort

·       Decoding words ending with ck

The fourth 9 weeks has now begun and we are entering the downhill slide.  Before you know it, the school year will be over and your **Kindergartener** will be a **First Grader**. 

 

 

Word List:  A list of words will be sent home on Monday.  These are words for you and your child to practice sounding out together.   This week, each word will feature the digraph “ck”.  Please return the list on Friday.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be from 4-6

HIP/HOP will be from 6-6:30

Science Fair for 4th & 5th grade will start at 6:30  

 

 

                                         HIP/HOP sessions offered:

#1.  Responsibility—Growing Great Citizens:  This session will help you help students become responsible learners at home and at school.

#2.  Improving Memory—-“I Have To Remember All That? : This session will focus on techniques to help students, and you, remember information over time.  Strategies will be demonstrated to help parents promote their children’s active study skills applying these memory techniques.

#3.  Social Skills—Fun Activities for Building Social Skills: Parents will participate in activities and learn tips to improve their children’s social skills.  Topics include conversational skills, maintaining friendships, identification of emotions, and conflict management.

#4.  Educational Technology —The App Generation: This session will teach parents how to access quality content on their smart device.  We will talk about using the app store and/or google play for educational content for your child(ren).  We will also look at programs to monitor the time and usage your child has access to apps on Android or iOS devices.

#5.  Reading–Supporting Your K-2 Reader: Parents will learn reading strategies for beginning readers, as well as resources available to use at home.  We will also focus on ways to get your child to continue to read over the summer.

 

#6.  Music:  Music Matters:  This session will explore how music can motivate, help build memory, stimulate the brain and build awareness to creativity.

#7.  Essex Bank:  How to Start Saving for College NOW!  Tuition for college goes up every year.  We expect all Byrd students to attend and graduate from college.  A local bank representative will talk to parents about how to start saving in elementary school.  Your child will be graduating from high school and ready to start college before you know it, BE PREPARED!!!!

We Are All Abuzz About (March 25)

 

Dear Parents,

We had a great time at the Children’s Museum on Friday.  The children had so much fun.  It is time to plan for our Easter Party now.  I will send home a sign up sheet for the Easter Egg Hunt and another for the Easter Party on March 24th.  I am planning for our class to have a breakfast.

·      We will review famous Americans

·      We will recite the months of the year

We Are All Abuzz About…(Mar 19)

We are back at school again after another round of ugly winter weather.  I hope that this is the last of it.

Wednesday’s Homework will be – Sight Word Wednesday Work.

Thursday’s Homework will be – Money Review.

Friday’s Homework will be – Read your Poetry Journal.

On March 20th, the entire school will go to the High School to see the play Stuart Little.  If you have not turned in your permission slip, please do so.  The performance is free!

Please send in $9.50 for the field trip to the Children’s Museum.  I am extending the due date to Wednesday, March 12th.  We will go to the Children’s Museum om Friday, March 14th.
