All Abuzz About…..(October 28th)

 

Dear Parents,

Reading Reaps a Harvest night is Tuesday, October 29th.  The fun begins at 5:00 and ends at 6:30.  This Thursday is the Walk – a – Thon fundraiser.  Thursday is also our Fall Party.

We Are All Abuzz About:

·      We will count backwards from 10 – 1.

·      We will continue to learn to recognize the American Flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

·      We will finish our unit on patterns and test what we have learned.

·      We will learn about the letters Ee and Ll.  We will review all letters learned so far.

·      We will learn to recognize and write numbers 0 – 15.

·      We will practice counting to 50.

·      Sight words:  come, look.

·      We will learn about pumpkins.

·      We are learning the song My Country ‘Tis of Thee.

Homework Schedule:

Monday – Number Writing, Dot to Dot Pumpkin.

Tuesday –  Ee/Gg Handwriting.

Wednesday – Sight Word Wednesday – come, look.

Thursday – Glue your sort in your word study notebook.  (The word study notebook will be sent home with your child on Thursday).

Friday – Read poetry journal.  Return poetry journal on Monday.

 

Parent Teacher Conferences:  Conferences are November 5th.  They begin at 11:00 am and end at 6:45.  Please be sure to sign up for your time slot.

Dear Parents,

The book fair ends on Monday of this week.  I hope you are ready for Halloween in your households.  I can tell you for certain that the kids are excited and have been talking about it for days!  Please plan to attend our Reading Reaps a Harvest night here at Byrd.  It starts at 5:00 and your child will be able to trick or treat right here at Byrd.

·      The 5 senses review.

·      We will learn about globes, and maps.  We will locate land and water on a map.

·      We will continue to learn to recognize the American Flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

·      We will finish our unit on patterns and test what we have learned.

·      We will learn about the letters Pp and Uu.  We will review all letters learned so far.

·      We will learn to recognize and write numbers 0 – 10.

·      We will practice counting to 40.

I hope everyone plans to attend the festivities Tuesday evening.  We will kick off our Fall Book Fair in the media center at 5:00.  A PTA meeting follows at 6:30.

 Halloween is coming and will be here before we know it.  Our class will have a Fall themed party on October 31st and we will need parents to help plan our festivities.  If you would like to help plan the party, please write a note in your child’s agenda or send me an email with your phone number.

We are learning how to use learning stations in our classroom.  Learning stations are a beneficial way for children to practice what we have learned during instructional time while groups of children work with the teacher to learn concepts that are new to them.  Please help reinforce good station time behavior with your child.  Good station time behaviors are:  1.  Stay in your station.  2.  Talk in an indoor voice.  3.  Complete all work that is in your station.  4.  Clean your station before you leave.

Computer Lab:  We are using the computer lab each week to learn basic technology skills.  The children are leaning to move the cursor and click and drag objects.  This week, we will work on the website pbskids.org.

PALS Testing:  PALS stands for Phonological and Literacy Awareness Screening.  Your child will be tested on:  letter recognition, letter sound awareness, rhyming word recognition, beginning sound recognition and the ability to read and track words in a short poem.
