Dr. Seuss Week Is Here!

This morning we kicked off Dr. Seuss week with an assembly.  The Cat in the Hat and Thing One and Thing Two came to read to us.  Each day, we will celebrate with a new Dr. Seuss theme.

Tuesday – Five Hundred Hats Day – Wear your favorite hat

Wednesday – Oh! The Places You’ll Go – Wear a shirt to show somewhere you have been

Thursday – Fox in Sox – Wear crazy socks

Friday – Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss.  Dress up as your favorite character from any book

Dear Parents,

If you can, please send in construction paper in any color.  We also need wipes.

What Will We Be Covering This Week?

We will:

  • Learn about words that begin with r blends such as gr, br, and tr.
  • We will finish learning about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
  • Count to 100 by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s.
  • Recite the months of the year.
  • Learn about wind and weather.
  • Reviewing sight words then, get, went, this, with.
  • Learn to recognize these coins:  penny, nickel, dime and quarter.
  • Count collections of pennies and nickels.
  • Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Friday.

Field Trip:  Our Field trip to the Children’s Museum of Richmond has been approved.  The trip is on March 5th and the cost is $9.00.  Please send in your money and permission form as soon as possible.

Counting and Recognizing Money:

Money is a difficult concept for Kindergarteners.  We will practice recognizing each coin and its value every day for the next two weeks.  We will also practice counting collections of coins containing pennies, nickels and dimes.  Please practice recognizing and counting coins with your child at home each night.

March 11th – Marking Period 3 tests begin

March 15th – No School Student Holiday

March 19th – Hip Hop Parent Night begins at 5:30

March 19th – PTA meeting begins at 6:30

 

Counting by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s:

We will practice counting by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s each day.  Please practice each day with your child as well.  This is an SOL that we will be tested on in the next two weeks.
