Oct. 24 through October 31, 2013

GAD 1 – Phobia work of art due this week. Reinforcing layer masking through morphing critter assignment. Then we’ll move onto learning blend modes and hopefully successful use of scanners to create multi-layer art.

GAD 2 – Learning how to politely post comments to others art on Edmodo. Then we’ll start a work of art I call “Uncomfortable.”

Game Design – Checklist for the two level Stagecast game is available today. Games will be graded around Wednesday next week. Then we’ll learn about gameplay and students will develop their own definition of gameplay. I hope to finalize that assignment by having students make a video.

Blended Learning in Bachmann’s classes

Blended learning is arriving to my classes. We do it now a little bit through intrAnet instruction. Ask your teen about this. We use it daily.

Until administrative approval is acquired I’m just introducing a few students who want to learn more. Example: Andy learned C++ at another school and wants to learn Python and Java. He signed up for the free coursera course “An Introduction to Interactive Programming in Programing.” 9 weeks long, 7-10 hours a week.

Hope to include entire classes this year. I’ve completed distance learning instruction certification from University Wisconsin-Madison and continue to verify with additional course work.

What’s Bachmann’s role? *It’s always wise to instruct students in online etiquette and how to properly respond to discussion questions as well as navigating online course web sites and how to maximize organizational digital skills. Any student introduced to Coursera will receive this instruction.

October 15-18, 2013

Hope you have a great day off on Monday!

This is more than a blog. Links are instructional and assist with future quizzes.

Follow me on Twitter. #KimBachmann. Students are encouraged to download the Twitter app to their iPhone/Android smart phone, iTouch, iPad.

GAD 1 – “Food Face” projects will be graded next week.

We are learning how to use Photoshop‘s Layer Masking options and how to arrange Layers so objects appear behind other objects. Artists call it background, middleground, and foreground. A creative project will be assigned this week using all newly learned Eraser Tools as well as Layer Masking.

GAD 2 – Thank you GHS math teacher, Mr. Barry Smith! Mr. Smith assisted this class with belonging to the GHS GAD 2 Edmodo group. Homework will be instructed through Edmodo. There’s an app for iPhone and Android devices. Students were asked to also download the app during Mr. Smith’s instruction. Congrats! All students successfully added text and an image to the Edmodo homework assignment ;-)

This week the class homework Edmodo assignment is to place a micro landscape image into their account. Then we’ll look at etiquette and proper responding to online discussions and commenting during class. The Vue in class assignment has to do with spotlights.

CADalso known as Animation/Game Design. We finished up learning about Manga and Anime. The class enjoyed the Anime movie Princess Mononoke. This week we start game design. We don’t just play games. Students create game actors, plan games, learn about gameplay, and collaborate during the learning process. Just like professional game designers. For a few weeks we’ll use the Stagecast Creator app. Eventually we’ll migrate ideas to Scratch (free), Stencyl (free) and GameSalad (free).

October 7-11, 2013

Animation/Game Design (CAG) – Presentations were due last week. Absent students can come into SMART block to complete the assignment. This week we’ll draw Manga and create a unique character. We’ll also watch the popular Japanese TV series Mononoke.  Mononoke is a Japanese animated television series produced by Toei Animation. A spin-off of 2006′s horror anthology series Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales, Mononoke follows the character of the medicine seller as he continues to face myriad supernatural perils. Mononoke takes place during the Edo Period Japan with the four class system, Samurai being the highest class and merchants (such as the medicine seller himself) being in the lowest class. Only Samurai were permitted to carry swords, which is why it comes as a shock to many of the characters that the medicine seller would be carrying a sword.

GAD 1 – Food Face is due this week. Complete by applying Contrast we discussed in class last week as well as drop shadows to every food item layer. Layers will be further explored this week. Did you know you can rearrange layer items to enhance foreground and background objects? Closer to October 31 we’ll discuss Surrealism. Surrealism is a style of art. Pop art, Impressionism and Abstract art are also styles. Famous Surrealism artists include Dali, Ernst and Magritte.

GAD 2 – A photo out the window of your house was due last week. This week finalize and submit project. HOMEWORK – I call it Ants Point of View. Some artists call it Micro Landscape. Albrect Durer created a print using this technique. Your assignment is to take a photo upclose. Can be an indoor or outdoor photo. Consider the unlikely. Kitchen cupboards, inside closets, an opened toolbox…

Mr Smith will be with us this week to help you set up your Edmodo account. Edmodo is an educational Facebook account. You will start submitting written and visual homework assignments using Edmodo. Start by downloading the free app to your iPhone or Android device. It’s also available for home computers.
