GHS Art I Duck Stamp Contest

GHS Art I Duck Stamp Contest

Art I students at GHS created stunning works of art to compete in the US Fish and Wildlife Service Junior Duck Stamp Program.  This annual program results in a national winner who’s work of art actually becomes a stamp!  We worked with colored pencil on tinted paper and considered composition, color, form, and of course accuracy of the species.  From the JDSP website…

What is a Junior Duck Stamp? The Junior Duck Stamp (JDS) is a pictorial stamp produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to recognize the conservation efforts of young people and support environmental and conservation education programs in the United States. The stamp design is selected from a national art contestadministered by the Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program. The first place national winner of the art contest graces that year’s JDS and is sold by the U.S. Postal Service and Amplex Corporation for $5. The first stamp, issued in 1993-1994, was painted by Jason Parsons of Illinois. All proceeds of the stamp are used to fund environmental education programs, award students for their work and market the JDS program.
