Interactive Websites

What’s an interactive website? Typically, it’s one that’s based on Flash-based “applets” that works well on an interactive white board. This post is for teachers who use Promethean boards.

  • SMART Board Websites
  • Interactive Math Websites

If you have a favorite list of websites for use on an interactive whiteboard (or even one favorite) leave it in the comments!

Busy Day

On Tuesday, I worked with teachers at BES on learning about the iOS devices just delivered to their schools. We looked at the ebook I published here on my blog, explored some apps, and I answered questions for teachers

Then it was on to GMS to check-in with Bea, leading a session on using Activotes with our middle school teachers. Ms. Parker from GHS joined the group. Votes have already gone out to participants to begin using these response devices in the classroom in conjunction with online activities and with Promethean flip charts.

10 Things about Promethean…

I came across this list of “10 things” about Promethean boards via Twitter. (I could of course take the liberty of telling you how useful a tool Twitter is, but then that wouldn’t be the point of what I sat down to write. But it is a great tool.)

The ten things aren’t particularly profound revelations, as they are things I already instinctually knew about our Proboards. However, they got me thinking about them in a new way, and doing things like tracing you hand were things I’d never even tried. Perhaps the list will inspire you to think about your board in a new way!

Sketchfu

sketchfu

Teachers: do you like to draw? This simple-to-use, Web 2.0 drawing tool called Sketchfu may be for you! Unlike the Promethean board, you can play-back your drawing in real (or speedy) time! There’s also a wiki set up with lesson ideas for teachers!

Check out my drawing of a simple atom.

New Promethean Resources

I’m in the process of designing Promethean flipcharts for Levels 3-5 with Bea’s help. I am also running into some interesting locations online for flipcharts, and have added them to our Promethean wiki page. Included are flipcharts on word study and a Ning group that’s dedicated to Promethean resources like high school math, and K-5.

Promethean Dates

You can see all of our tech classes online by subscribing to our calendar. While it now only lists our Promethean classes, it will expand over this week to include all of our technology classes. We also indicate where the locations are–so don’t automatically assume it’s at your school! I’ll be posting a link to our sign-up wiki later next week, too.

Touchy Teachers

Several folks told me about this article from Newsweek about interactive whiteboards.

I thought the article, while short, well-summarized what’s needed to make the most of these tools: good quality training that emphasizes good pedagogy.
