Busy Day

On Tuesday, I worked with teachers at BES on learning about the iOS devices just delivered to their schools. We looked at the ebook I published here on my blog, explored some apps, and I answered questions for teachers

Then it was on to GMS to check-in with Bea, leading a session on using Activotes with our middle school teachers. Ms. Parker from GHS joined the group. Votes have already gone out to participants to begin using these response devices in the classroom in conjunction with online activities and with Promethean flip charts.

On Making iPad Video Demos

I hope the videos posted earlier today are valued by folks for getting a feel for Comic Life and Keynote. I plan to do more.

I used a Lumens-brand document camera with the lights off, and recorded the videos without editing. Using the queue software from Lumens, it used the Mac’s built-in microphone for audio. For using some tools we already own, I thought they turned out pretty well.

Keynote for the iPad

Keynote can be used to present Keynote presentations without a laptop: add a video dongle to an iPad, and you can present to an audience.

But did you know you can use the Keynote app to create decks of slides without a computer? Watch the video below and John shows you how!

Introduction to Comic Life on the iPad

John covers the basics of creating a comic strip using Comic life on iPad.

Strong reasons to use this app with students:

  • Encourages Revised Blooms levels of cognitive engagement: evaluation, synthesis
  • Storytelling – critical to answer questions who, what, why, how
  • Mixed Media Production – photos and text (visual with language)

iOS in Education Resource

I’ve put together two different versions of a short electronic book about iOS Devices. It will be of interest to our teachers because it contains a list of the apps we’ve installed on our iPod Touch and iPad devices for students.

  • ePub Edition (for iBooks on iOS)
  • PDF Edition

The ebook was created with software we already own—Pages ’09.
