I Love TKAM!

The 9th graders finished reading To Kill a Mockingbird last week, and like always, it was fabulous!  This is truly one of the best books out there, in my opinion.  I enjoy it in a special and unique way every time I read it, and boy, have I read it a lot!!  I know everyone was required to read it, but I really hope most of you enjoyed it.  It was wonderful sharing it with you this past month.

Play the Hunger Games

StacksSignature_Trade_27 After we finished Hunger Games, the 10th graders watched an interview online with the author, Suzanne Collins.  I only showed pieces of it because it gave some parts away from the second novel Catching Fire.  Many of you asked for the link so you could watch the rest of the interview.  Here ya go! Suzanne Collins Interview

StacksSignature_Trade_25

Here’s something that everyone will definitely enjoy.   You can actually play the Hunger Games.  They give you choices and you either make the right choice, or…well…I guess you know what will happen.  Have fun! Tribute Games

Hunger Games Tournament

The past 3 weeks the 10th graders have been reading a book entitled Hunger Games. In the novel, characters are picked randomly, and they are forced to participate in a physically challenging tournament.  Just to make things more interesting, we decided to have our own tournament in each 10th grade class. Two tributes (male and female) were chosen, and they were:

Day 1:  Katelyn & Matt    /     Day 2: Joyce & Jalen

Each tribute represented the entire row.  If he or she won, so did the entire row. The prize: King Size Candy Bars for the whole row.

The first part of the challenge was simple. You cannot sit down…ever.  All block…everyday…no sitting. If someone decided he or she didn’t want to do it, he or she could forfeit and the other tribute & his or her row won.

In our day 2 class, Jalen eventually forfeited his row in favor of a comfy seat, so Joyce’s row won!  But, in our day 1 class, neither Katelyn nor Matt would give up, so we were forced to take it to the next level.  Check out the final challenge below.
