English 10: Poetry Presentation Dates

The 10th graders are in the midst of a poetry unit.  They have been studying various poetry terms and analyzing different poems to identify those terms and better understand the meaning of the poem itself.  It has been fun, but we’re only getting started.  The students have been assigned a poem from their textbook, and they are working on a presentation where they will explain what their poem means and any poetic elements it contains.  Here are a few of the questions each student will need to be prepared to answer about his or or her poem.

A. Who is the speaker?

B. What is the speaker talking about? (What is the poem’s subject?)

C. What images and figurative language are in the poem? How do they affect the way the poem makes you feel?

D. What is the poem’s mood?

E. How does the poem use rhyme, rhythm, or other sound effects? (Alliteration, Rhyme Scheme, Onomatopoeia) Do the sound effects contribute to the meaning of the poem?

F. How do you respond to this poem? How can you explain your response.

The presentations are going to be on the following days.  Please see Mrs. Abbott or Mrs. Whisler if you forget what day you are presenting.

Day 1 Class:  January 27th, January 29th, & February 2nd

Day 2 Class:  January 26th, January 28th, & February 1st
