Encouraging reading is one of the most important things we can do to help your child succeed. It can be tough finding the right books to keep them interested, which is why I am so excited that our class will be participating in Scholastic Reading Club this school year.

Lang. Arts – This week students will be wrapping up our non-fiction books and a corresponding comprehension strategies.  They will also finish up their resource materials exploration.  This will be our first week with “Words of the WeeK” students will write the words into their agendas and will complete three activities in their spiral notebooks, due on Friday.  Words – day, night, season, spring, summer, winter, fall, moon, phases, and tide.

Math – Students will have a Subtraction Quiz on Tuesday, following the quiz we will review addition and subtraction with a unit test to come next week.

Science – We will continue to explore natural cycles in nature.  Students will learn about moon phases and tides this week.

Field Trip Friday!  We will have our first field trip to Shalom Farms on Friday.

Lang. Arts- This week students will continue to work on non-fiction texts during small group reading instruction.  Students will also learn about the purpose of different reference tools.

Math-  Students will be working on Subtraction this week.  If your child is having trouble continue to work with them on memorizing their addition facts, this will help when checking their work.  We will be working on subtracting out to the thousands place.

Science-  We will be wrapping up our unit on Measurement with a test on Wednesday.  Thursday we will begin our unit on Natural Cycles.

*Back to School Bash- This Tuesday begining at 5 with a cookie reception in the Cafeteria, then the ribbon cutting for the new playground,  with a Betsy Q concert to follow at 6!

Lang. Arts-  Students will be finishing up the steps of POWER with our Substitue Teacher writing prompt.  This week we will begin small group reading instruction.  Students will be reading non-fiction text, your child will be reading one of the following books and working on the corresponding skills.

-capitalize place names

Math-  We will continue to work on addition with regrouping this week, moving into the thousands place.  We will have an Adding quiz on Thursday.

Science-  Students will be wrapping up our unit on Metric Measurement with a test to come next Tuesday.

*Wednesday is Picture Day, dress your best!

Lang. Arts-  This week we will finish up Ramona Quimby, Age 8  and all corresponding activities.  We will also finish up the PALS screening and will begin reading groups next week.  Students will be working on their Word Study sorts this week.  Friday is a Writing Workshop Day, this year our school theme is TEAM (Together Eagles Achieve More), so we are encouraging students to wear sports shirts or jerseys.

Math-  We will begin the week with a review of all that we have covered so far this year in preparation for our test this Wednesday.  Beginning on Thursday we will start our unit on Addition and Subtraction of greater numbers, to help your child with this you can work on simple addition and subtraction math facts.  Here is a link or you can use flash cards.

Science-  Students will begin our uint on Metric Measurement this week.  This week we will focus on measuring length and mass.

I hope that everyone enjoyed their three day weekend!  This week we will continue working hard and learning many new things.

Lang. Arts-  This week students will be given the PALS screening.  We will continue reading our Ramona Quimby, Age 8 novel study this week and will hopefully be finishing up the book by Friday.  This week students will also be introduced to Word Study, this week we will all work on the same sort and in the weeks to follow students will be grouped and will work on spelling patterns that are on their level.

Math-  Students will continue working with greater numbers.  This week students will review comparing and ordering numbers.  Students will also be rounding numbers in the tens, hundreds, and thousands place.

Science-  We will begin our first unit in Science this week.  Students will be learning all about the Scientific Method and will be wrapping up this introduction with an experiment.
