This week SOL testing will begin!
*This week we will have our Science SOL on Wednesday, May 1.
This week students can to bring in their dime donations to help FILL our classroom water bottle. A FULL 16.9oz water bottle is $100 when just filled with dimes! Wow! On Friday, the water bottles will be collected, counted and the teacher’s classroom that collected the most dimes for Relay for Life wins!Relay for Life is an event that comes to Goochland each year and is a community wide fundraiser and awareness event to spread the message of cancer prevention, fundraise to help those in our community and awareness of services the American Cancer Society can provide to people in our community. The event this year is Friday, June 7th starting at 6:30p.m. and goes through the night until Saturday morning! The event is held at the GES track. The event itself is full of fun activities for all ages and walking the track through the night to make a statement that “cancer doesn’t rest and neither will we until we find a cure”!
*This is our last week before SOL’s begin! This week students will be bringing home a Science and Social Studies Review Folder. They should complete one page each night. There will be no Reading Folder this week.
Lang. Arts- Reading groups will continue to meet and review all reading skills. This week students will be working on their “A, B, C” Autobiographies.
Math- We will be finishing up our unit on Measurement woking with area, capacity, weight/mass, and temperature.
Science- Students have finished our unit on Animal Adaptations we will have our test on Wednesday.
Field Trip – This Friday we will be traveling to GES to celebrate Arbor Day and Dominion’s “Project Plant It!”
Savannah, has researched and explored the systems of the body this year as her GRIP. She created a web blog to share her information to help others to learn too! The site is now up and running! Check it out!
She also presented a readers theater – “The Super Squad”
Lang. Arts- Students will be finishing up their Biography posters and begin working on an autobiography. Reading groups will continue to review all skills.
Math- We will begin our unit on measurement. Students will be reviewing length, weight/mass, capacity, and volume. Students will also be learning about area and perimeter.
Science- This week we will be finishing up our unit on Animal Adaptations and Food Chains, test next week!

Why should you participate?
You should participate because the athletic programs in Goochland need your help! We are raising money to keep the athletic pro- grams going strong in Goochland and to hope- fully expand the option of sports for the ath- letes. You should also participate because it is so good for you, you will have a great time, and all the money goes toward a great pro- gram. Each registration is $30.
The 5k will be on SATURDAY, APRIL 27TH RAIN OR SHINE, with the runners wave start- ing at 9am, and the walker/stroller wave start- ing at 9:05am. The 5k run is timed by Com- monwealth Timing, and begins promptly at 9am. Participants can park in either the high school students’ parking lot or the faculty lot in front of the middle and high schools. The race will begin in the high school student parking lot.
Who can participate?
Anyone! This race welcomes runners, run/ walkers, walkers, and strollers. We will have a staggered start time, however. Runners will start at 9:00 am, run/walkers and people with dogs will start at 9:05 am, and walkers/people with strollers will start at 9:10.
Kids 10 and under can participate, too!
If your child is not ready to tackle the 3.1 mile run just yet, we have a solution for you! Participants who are 10 years old and younger can participate in our Fun Run. The run will be 1 mile, and the kids will run on the high school track (4 laps). The Fun Run will promptly begin at 8:30am, with the full 5k to follow. The Fun Run is $10.
Can I bring my dog?
Absolutely! The Bulldog 5k is very dog friendly; however, please make sure all dogs are on a leash (no flex leashes permitted), they are up to date on his/her rabies vacci- nations, is friendly with other dogs, be at least 6 months old, and not be in heat. We ask that you keep a leisurely pace with your dog to ensure their safety.
For the Love of Animals – Goochland:
F.L.A.G will have a booth set up this year for anyone who would like to donate pet food or other goods to the dogs in their shelter.
