As summer has come to a close, we are already in full swing in the choir room at GMS and GHS.  We Are well on our way to learning may exciting and new songs in every class.   Each class this year is bursting at the seams, which is a good thing.  I am eager to see all of these singers on stage together.  Exciting times.

Students have read and understand the syllabus that was handed out during our first week of classes.   Many parents have returned the parent chorus patron sheet with lots of support for the choral program.  Thanks so much for your help, support, and enthusiasm.

At the top of my blog, please see the separate pages of things that may pertain to your child’s class.  i.e.  GMS Chorus, GHS Mixed Chorus, and GHS Women’s Chorus

Itinerary for Busch Gardens

It is so hard to believe that it’s time for our Busch Gardens trip.

We have had such a great year!  I am very excited to be taking this trip with such a wonderful group of kids.  I wanted to send home some reminders about this upcoming trip.

Schedule for the day:

I will need each student to arrive at GMS at 7:45am on Saturday, May 2nd.  We need to depart by 8:00 am.  We will return to GMS by 9:00pm that evening. I am asking for each student to bring something for breakfast that morning.  We will not have time to stop for breakfast.

What to bring:

Your child will need money for lunch and dinner as these meals are not provided in the cost of the trip.  I would recommend about $40.00 to cover meals and any drinks they may need through the day.

Many of the rides require shoes.  I would encourage your child not to wear flip-flops or sandals.  Their feet will also appreciate it at the end of the day.  Bring a change of clothes; shorts, t-shirt, sunscreen, & comfortable shoes.

What to wear:

All GMS chorus students should wear their chorus outfits for the competition, as we want to make a GREAT impression.

Boys:  Black pants, white dress shirt, necktie, dress shoes.

Girls:  Black pants or skirt, white blouse, dress shoes.

Students will perform at:

Tabb High School, 4431 Big Bethel Road, Yorktown, VA at 10:30a.m.

Once our performance is over, students will be allowed to change clothes.  So, PLEASE bring a change of clothes for the remainder of the day.

The awards ceremony will be in the San Marco Theater located in Italy at 7:00pm.  Following the ceremony, all chorus students will load the buses to return home.  If you do not intend to ride the bus home, please send a note indicating such.  I estimate we should get back to GMS by 9:00pm.

Once again, I am looking forward to a great trip!  We will be there the same day as the GMS Band, so this should be lots of fun.  All parents who are attending, please let me know, as I will need chaperones to help with the students during the day.  We have a total of 48 chorus students, so if I have at least 12 chaperones, that would be 4 students per chaperone.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. or 556-5320 X 1767

I hope everyone had a fabulous summer and is ready to come into my class to sing!!  I have lots of new and exciting music for each and every group.  I am hoping I have something to make everyone love what we do.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.  It was great to see some of you last Thursday and to meet so many new people and their parents.  This should be an exciting year and I know we will have an exciting start to this year.

Come ready to be joyful and an integral part in ‘making a joyful sound’ as we kick off our new year in the GHS and GMS choral department.

Our GHS groups have many opportunities to perform and prepare for your next level of music.   In addition to our regular performance schedule, our District Auditions will be in November and District Choir will be in February.  Also, we will be traveling to Pigeon Forge in April, along with the band, to compete in their music festival.  This will be an exciting time.

Busch Gardens a Success

All of the Goochland Choral Groups came home with outstanding honors from the Music Showcase Festival Competition at Busch Gardens on May 3.

GMS Mixed Choir received a Superior rating and 1st place among middle school divisions.

GHS Mixed Choir received a Superior rating and 1st place among High School choirs.

GHS Women’s Choir received a Superior rating and 1st place in their division.

It was a great day.  Fun was had by all.

Busch Gardens

All of the Goochland High School and Middle School Choral groups will be competing this Saturday, May 3 in the Showcase Music Festival at Busch Gardens.  The actual competition will take place at Tabb High School in Yorktown, VA between 9:00a.m. and 10:40a.m., after which, we will go to the park for the remainder of the day.

All students should meet in front of Goochland High School at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday.  The buses will leave promptly at 7:00a.m. I would ask that all students participating in the competition  ride the bus in the morning.

Students will wear their assigned chorus outfits for the competition.  Then, they may change into more suitable clothing for the remainder of the day; shorts, t-shirts, jeans, etc.

AT 9:00p.m., we will meet at the outdoor Italian Theater for the awards ceremony.  At the completion of this, we will board the buses for home.  We should arrive back at Goochland High School by 11:00p.m.  Please make arrangements to have your child picked up at that time.

Anyone who wishes to ride home with their parents may do so at any time after the competition, you do not have to stay for the awards ceremony.  Please give me a signed note that you will not be riding the bus back.

Students may either bring money to purchase their lunch in the park or may bring a bag lunch.  We will not be returning to the buses until 9:30p.m.  Any thing they bring as far as cell phones, ipods, ipads, etc. are the responsibility of the child to keep up with.    If they bring a cell phone and intend to ride the water rides, I would recommend bringing a ziplock bag or another waterproof container in which to keep their phone.

I look forward to a fun-filled day.  Please note that at this time, if you cannot come on Saturday, I cannot reimburse you for your ticket.  All tickets were reserved with the initial reservation form and are non-refundable.
