A Great Year!

by on May.30, 2014, under Uncategorized

This was a fantastic school year thanks to the hard work of students and support from our administration, PTA , and all of the families at Randolph Elementary School.

Band-This year we piloted a fifth grade band program, the band earned Excellent ratings at VBODA music performance assessment and at the Kings Dominion Festival of Music.

Chorus- This year our chorus had several successful performances at the Winter Concert, Spaghetti Dinner, and the Kings Dominion Festival of Music, where they earned an Excellent Rating.

Strings- This year I moved the string experience from fifth grade meeting during the school day to an after school third and fourth grade program.

The 2013 Music SOL revision has led to a revamped music program, focused on literacy, performance, and critical evaluation.

Year 2 of Elementary Band

by on May.23, 2014, under Uncategorized

Parents of Rising Fifth Graders,

The 2013-2014 school year marked the return of fifth grade band at Randolph, following a nearly two decade hiatus.  The program has been extraordinarily successful, and I am looking forward to the coming school year, and the continuation of this project. To maximize instruction, student instrument selection will take place before the end of the year, so that we may begin in August.

Lessons will take place Within the context of the school day with occasional after school rehearsals before concerts and contests. Students are responsible for providing their own instrument, and I am happy to facilitate acquisition. All instruments can be rented from a reputable music store, which services GCPS Schools, for $25-30 per month, as part of a rent to own program.
